- 48% of Hispanics under age 64
- 20% of African-Americans under age 64
- 11% of Caucasians under age 64
Uninsured individuals and families often lack basic preventative health care:
- Most cannot afford basic medicines
- Many prolong medical treatment until their condition becomes critical
- The emergency room often becomes the primary care facility for the uninsured. This drives up
health care costs for everyone, including those with insurance.
